SAFE DATING GUIDE

SAFETY TIPS FOR MEETINGS

Take Time to Get to Know Them

Take your time and try to get to know the other person before agreeing to meet or chat outside of Letzy. Don't be afraid to ask questions about any red flags or personal deal-breakers. A phone or video call can be a useful screening tool before meeting in person.

Meet in Public and Stay There

For first meetings, meet in a crowded, public place — never at your home, your date's home, or any other private location. If the person pressures you to go to a private location, end the date.

Tell Your Friends and Family About Your Plans

Tell a friend or family member about your plans, including when and where you're going. Keep your phone with you and fully charged at all times.

Control Your Own Transportation

We want you to control how you get to and from your meeting so you can leave whenever you want. If you're driving yourself, it's a good idea to have a backup plan such as a ride-share app or a friend to pick you up.

Know Your Limits

Be especially aware of the effects of drugs or alcohol on you— they can impair your judgment and alertness. If the person you're meeting tries to pressure you to use drugs or drink more than you're comfortable with, don't back down and end the date.

Don't Leave Drinks or Personal Items Unattended

Know where your drink came from and where it is at all times — only accept drinks served directly by the bartender or server. Many substances used to facilitate sexual assault are odorless, colorless, and tasteless. Also, always keep your phone, purse, wallet, and anything containing personal information with you.

If You Feel Uncomfortable, Leave

If you feel uncomfortable, it's okay to end the date early. If your instincts tell you something is wrong or you feel unsafe, don't hesitate to ask for help from those around you.

LGBTQ+ TRAVEL SAFETY

Be Careful When Traveling

We recognize and believe in the importance of being inclusive of all gender identities and sexual orientations, but the reality is: nowhere in the world is without potential risk, and some countries have specific laws targeting LGBTQ+ people.

When traveling to a new place, don't forget to check the laws there. Research what kind of legal protection you can get regarding your sexual orientation. If you're in an unsafe region, we recommend turning off the "Visibility" option found at the bottom of the settings page.

If you've added a sexual orientation to your profile and choose to be shown on Letzy, we'll hide your sexual orientation until you leave that region.

If you choose to connect with new people in these countries, it's known that some law enforcement may use possible entrapment. Some countries have introduced laws to criminalize communication between individuals found on same-sex dating apps or websites, and even increase penalties if such communication leads to sexual relations.

To see the latest sexual orientation laws by country, you can visit the ILGA World page.

SEXUAL HEALTH & CONSENT

Protect Yourself

When used correctly and consistently, condoms can significantly reduce the transmission and spread of sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) such as HIV. However, be aware of STDs such as herpes or HPV that can be transmitted through skin-to-skin contact. The risk of exposure to some STDs can be reduced through vaccination.

Know Your Status

Not all sexually transmitted diseases show symptoms, and you don't want to be unaware of your status. Stay on top of your health and prevent the spread of STDs by getting tested regularly.

Talk About It

Talk to your partner about sexual health and STD testing and health status before becoming physically intimate. These conversations can sometimes be difficult, but they protect both your and your partner's health in the long run.

Consent

All sexual activity must begin with consent and include your partner's ongoing approval. Verbal communication can help you and your partner respect each other's boundaries.

Important:

  • Consent can be withdrawn at any time
  • No one ever owes anyone sex
  • Do not proceed if your partner seems uncomfortable or unsure
  • Consent is invalid if your partner is under the influence of alcohol or drugs
  • "No" is a clear answer and must be respected

ONLINE SAFETY

Meeting new people is exciting, but you should always be careful when communicating with someone you don't know. Use your best judgment and prioritize your safety when first messaging or meeting in person. Although you can't control others' actions, there are things you can do to help stay safe during your Letzy experience.

Never Send Money or Share Financial Information

Never send money, especially via wire transfer, even if the person claims to be in an emergency. Making a wire transfer is like sending cash — it's nearly impossible to reverse the transaction or track where the money went. Never share information that could be used to access your financial accounts.

If another user asks you for money, immediately report it to hello@888technology.co. For tips on avoiding romance scams, check out some advice from the US Federal Trade Commission on the FTC website.

Protect Your Personal Information

Never share personal information such as your social security number, home or work address, or details about your daily routine (such as going to a specific gym every Monday) with people you don't know.

If you're a parent, limit the information you share about your children in your profile and early communication. Avoid sharing details such as your children's names, where they go to school, their ages, or genders.

Stay on the Platform

Keep conversations on the Letzy platform while trying to get to know someone. Malicious users often try to move the conversation immediately to SMS, messaging apps, email, or phone. Moving off the platform means losing the protection our security measures provide.

Report All Suspicious and Disturbing Behavior

You'll know when someone crosses the line, and we want to know when they do. You can report anyone who violates our terms by blocking and reporting them.

  • Requests for money or donations
  • Underage users
  • Messages containing harassment, threats, and insults
  • Inappropriate or harmful behavior during or after meeting in person
  • Fake profiles
  • Spam or unwanted advertising
  • Links to commercial websites or attempts to sell products or services
  • Sexual threats or blackmail
